TOGETHER! owes a debt of gratitude to the volunteers who graciously donate their time towards out mission to advance the health and well-being of young people. We pride ourselves in creating a fun, diverse and unique environment for our team of talented and dedicated volunteers. We look for volunteers who have talents in all different areas and pair them with the program or project that fits them best. We offer fun volunteer opportunities in the following areas:

After school program volunteer – make a difference in a child’s life by serving as a mentor, homework helper or activity leader. 
Fundraising event volunteer – do you have a passion for event planning? Event décor? Auctions? Help us put on our next fundraising event!
Office volunteer – Use your administrative skills or build job skills. We are always looking for an office volunteer to help with filing, large mailings, donor tracking and much more!
Tabling event volunteer – Do you love getting to know other people and talking about a cause you care about? We are always looking for outgoing individuals to table at community events. 
Special Projects – From stuffing envelopes to designing marketing materials, we occasionally have ways we can use special talents. Special talents we are on the hunt for include graphic design, marketing, fundraising, yoga instruction…. You name it.

Afterschool Mentor

Who: Anyone who has time to commit to enriching a child’s life
What: Mentoring elementary students in the North Thurston School district When: Monday-Thursday from 2:30-5:30 during the school year September-May
Description: The Club House after school program is looking for teens and adults who are interested in being mentors, role models, and want to give back to the community while having fun!! This volunteer opportunity is a great way to get job experience as well as fulfill high school graduation requirements.
A day in the life of a Club House volunteers starts out with helping staff set up all the fun activities you will do that day, helping kids with homework and reading, facilitating games like basketball, and helping students create amazing works of art!
We are looking for responsible, mature, excited teens and adults who want to make a real difference in a kid’s life!

  • Be at least 16 years of age

  • Commit to volunteering at least one day a week for 6 weeks

By becoming a Club House volunteer, you are committing attend Club House after school program at least once a week during the time you volunteer.

Office Volunteer Opportunities

Administrative and Development Assistant

Role: Support the agency with professional administrative support in the areas of fund development and general office assistance.
Length of Commitment: Indefinite; minimum of 6 months preferred. Prefer about 5 hours a week.
Location: TOGETHER! main office, Lacey WA

  • Help with routine and special office tasks, such as bulk mailings, filing and paperwork processing, data gathering, office organization, transcribing written notes, and more.
  • Assist with administrative and communications projects.
  • Perform administrative support for fundraising and educational events.
  • Prepare publication orders, such as Family Resource Guide orders.
  • If skills and interests allow, help to increase agency’s individual giving through soliciting donations and/or promoting the agency or its fundraisers.
  • If skills and interests allow, help to increase foundation and corporate giving through grant writing and research.

Qualifications and skills:

  • Background in administrative support, finance, and/or development preferred.
  • Basic office skills required. Intermediate to advanced office skills preferred.
  • Intermediate or higher computer use skills, especially with Microsoft Office, strongly preferred. Ability to quickly learn and use unfamiliar computer software is helpful.
  • Volunteers must pass a Washington state background check.
  • Must follow TOGETHER! policies and procedures, including maintaining confidentiality.
  • Good organizational, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member, balancing multiple tasks. This position will collaborate extensively with administrative staff and other volunteers, so ability to work with others and communicate well is key.

Evergreen Villages Volunteer Opportunities

Youth Development Program Volunteer
Description: The Youth Development Program Volunteer will assist the Program Manager in providing programs, activities, and services for children, youth and families at a HUD-supported affordable housing complex in Olympia.  Programs will be designed to help children be academically and socially successful and to help strengthen families.  Primarily, volunteers will work with students in kindergarten through high school to coordinate and assist with homework help, lead group activities, and involve children in games and other activities.
Hours: Monday-Thursday 2:30pm-5:00pm. Volunteers can choose a schedule that best fits for them.

Food Bank Distribution Volunteer (2 positions per week)
Description: Evergreen Villages is a satellite location for the Thurston County Food Bank. Volunteers are needed to help assist with food bank distribution including unloading food from van, helping distribute food evenly among clients, and client record keeping.
Hours: 1st and 3rd Thursday from 12:30-2:30pm. Volunteers can choose to assist with one or both distributions per month.

Food Bank Van Driver and Distribution Volunteer (1 or 2 positions)
Description: Evergreen Villages is a satellite location for the Thurston County Food Bank. We need one volunteer to drive the food bank van from the downtown Thurston County Food Bank office to Evergreen Villages. This person will also assist with food bank distribution including unloading food from van, helping distribute food evenly among clients, and client record keeping.
Hours: 1st and 3rd Thursday from 12:00-3:00pm. Volunteers can choose to assist with one or both distributions per month.

Garden Volunteer
Description: The youth development program at Evergreen Villages currently is looking for a volunteer to help assist our garden club prepare, plan, grow, and harvest our garden plot.  The garden volunteer will work with youth in kindergarten through high school to cultivate their interests in learning to garden.
Hours: Monday-Thursday 2:30pm-5:00pm. Volunteers can choose a schedule that best fits for them. We would want at least 1 hour commitments.

Vietnamese Interpreter and Translator Volunteer
Description: Help interpret conversations between Program Manager and residents during program events. Translate monthly calendars and resident flyers on an as needed basis.
Hours: Interpreting services will be dependent on events. Translating services is on an as-needed basis.

Community Schools Volunteer Opportunities

Community Resource Center Volunteer

TOGETHER! stocks Community Resource Centers in eight Tumwater schools with donations from faith-based organizations, business and non-profit partners, and individuals. Through these Resource Centers, we supply students with supplemental food, new clothing, and necessary hygiene items. The Community Resource Center volunteer(s) will assist with inventory, sorting and cataloguing donations, and transporting items between our main office in Tumwater and the school sites as necessary.

  • Regular weekly availability preferred


Volunteer Adult Mentors Needed

TOGETHER!'s Community Schools program in Tumwater is piloting a mentoring program in one Tumwater elementary school with the intention of supporting students in their transition to middle school. The transition to middle school can be one of the most difficult moments in a child's academic life, and the impacts of it are seen all the way through high school graduation and beyond. Secure relationships with supportive adults are a key protective factor in helping students succeed in school and in life.

Mentors will meet with their mentees once per week at school in a group, where a variety of activities will be provided including a combination of group and individual activities such as games, puzzles, and arts and crafts. Lunch will be provided to all mentors and mentees.

This opportunity requires a weekly commitment of one hour once a week at lunchtime, plus availability for training before the program begins and on an ongoing basis, roughly once a month. We are looking for mentors who are able to make at least a two-year commitment to their mentees, in order to develop a relationship that can make a lasting positive impact.

We welcome college students, working professionals of all ages, and retired seniors to apply for this opportunity. Ongoing training and support will be provided to ensure that mentoring relationships are successful.

Host a Drive!

We are constantly accepting donations of school supplies; non-perishable, nutrient-dense food; new clothing (with tags) and hygiene items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, liquid body wash, deodorant, lotion, shampoo and conditioner to maintain stock in our Community Resource Centers. One of the best ways a group or organization can support us is by hosting a drive to collect these items so that we can distribute them to the students who need them. We will gladly come meet with your group to talk about our work and help sort collected items. Mentoring Volunteer Opportunities

We are currently recruiting volunteers for Pathmakers, a brand new school-based mentoring program. Pathmakers volunteers will work one-on-one with their mentee in structured weekly sessions throughout the mentee's 5th and 6th grade years. This is a fantastic opportunity to build a close, meaningful relationship with a child during a critical period of their social and academic development. Secure relationships with supportive adults is a top protective factor that contributes to the long-term success of young people regardless of other risk factors such as poverty, abuse/neglect, instability of basic resources such as food or housing, and trauma.

If you are interested in connecting with a young person in order to make a serious impact on their life, please read the volunteer position description and program operating principles below to determine if Pathmakers is the opportunity for you! 

Position: Pathmakers Student Mentor

Role: Build and maintain trusting, supportive relationship with youth mentee via twice-weekly group meetings and project-based learning challenges. Participate in mentor support group meetings and ongoing training sessions.

Essential Duties:

  1. Take turn facilitating group process of opening and closing twice-weekly match meetings with other mentors.
  2. Lead mentee through project-based learning challenge every week, help brainstorm new challenges with other mentors.
  3. Work consistently with mentee for at least two academic years (5th and 6th grade), including at least four weeks of the summer vacation in between.
  4. Participate in weekly mentor support meetings.
  5. Attend all pre-match and ongoing mentor training sessions.

Time Commitment:  Approximately 1-2 hours per week plus 4-hour quarterly training sessions.


  1. Training in active listening, collaborative problem-solving, youth development, conflict resolution and related topics.
  2. Opportunity to participate in program direction & collaborative group decision-making.
  3. Build a lasting and mutually fulfilling relationship with a young person.

Program Operating Principles

  1. We support our mentors in their own personal and professional growth with the understanding that what we put into our mentors gets passed on to their mentees.
  2. We provide enough structured activity per session to keep the mentor-mentee relationship strong in a way that is developmentally appropriate (i.e. project-based), while balancing structure with room for creativity, autonomy, and collaboration within each pair.
  3. We match our mentors with mentees based on in-person interviews that determine interests, communication styles, expectations, and attitudes regarding the mentoring relationship.
  4. We ensure that every single participant in our program, whether they are a mentor or a mentee, feels that their contribution to the group is valued and important.
  5. We support students’ self-determination in encouraging them to make a plan for and continuously reflect upon their personal progress through middle school.
  6. We use Project-Based Learning techniques to foster the 5 C’s in all of our mentees and mentors: collaboration, creativity, communication, critical thinking, confidence
