Awards of Excellence

Join us May 13th, 2017 to celebrate young people who have shown leadership and resilience in the face of personal hardship!

The Awards of Excellence is an annual event that honors and celebrates youth in our community whose paths have been marked with adversity and whose grace and strength continue to shine through. Honorees are featured in The Olympian newspaper and publicly recognized at an award ceremony. Together with our partners we are proud to continue this tradition for another year based on the knowledge that supporting and encouraging young people helps our community thrive.

Nominations are Now Open!

Schools and community organizations are invited to nominate a deserving youth between the ages of 11 and 21 who has shown leadership and resilience in the face of personal hardship. Junior and senior nominees will be considered by a committee of our staff and partners for one of five $1,000 scholarships, two of which will be awarded based on the theme “Service Above Self.”

Submit your nomination by downloading this document and emailing the completed nomination with their school picture or a head-and-shoulders snapshot to CSpencer@thurstonTOGETHER.org with the subject “[nominee name] AoE Headshot.” The deadline for nominations HAS BEEN EXTENDED to April 14, 2017. Please consider all the forms of diversity that characterize your community in making your selection.

Focus on the Future - Together for Healthy Communities

Focus on the Future - TOGETHER! The name says a lot.  This year we are honored to partner with Evergreen Council on Problem Gambling, a locally based non-profit that is dedicated to increasing awareness of public health issues around gambling and gaming, expanding the availability and integration of services, and supporting advocacy, research, and programs for education, prevention, and responsible gambling and gaming.

Focus on the Future - TOGETHER! combines the best of the annual conferences both our organizations have offered over the years, providing valuable insights on the tools and resources available for effective prevention, treatment, and community engagement.

Back to Basics 2017

Get ready to go back to school healthy and strong with help from TOGETHER! All Tumwater middle and high school students are welcome to join us on August 1st at Tumwater High School for no-cost sports physicals. On August 22nd, we open up shop at Peter G. Schmidt Elementary to provide free required immunizations for any student in our community entering preschool through age 18. See the flier, above, for more details.

TOGETHER!'s Tumwater Community Schools program has been coordinating annual back-to-school healthcare access events in Tumwater since 2015. Each year, we serve over 200 students with no-cost sports physicals and required immunizations so they can start the school year off right and access all the opportunities available to them at school without the cost of healthcare being a barrier. At each event, we welcome community partners who provide information and support with insurance and other services.

This year, at the Sports Physicals clinic, available resources will include opportunities to schedule well-child checks, Sea Mar Beahvioral Health, health insurance navigation services, City of Tumwater, Vision Health and a Community Resource Center table. At the Immunization Clinic, we will have information about early learning opportunities for children birth to age 5, City of Tumwater youth programs, Hand's On Children's Museum, South Sound Reading Foundation, and health insurance navigation services on-site, as well as information about all the other resources & services that are available through Tumwater Community Schools. We'll see you there!
