Marijuana, when used during adolescence or early adulthood, is detrimental to brain development and can lead to several cognitive, social, and emotional issues. Focus Your Influence is a youth marijuana prevention toolkit which aims to address the changing attitudes held by young people following the legalization of marijuana for adult use in Washington State. Designed for the middle school health classroom, Focus Your Influence includes comprehensive educator information and three engaging, easy-to-follow lessons. The production of this toolkit was made possible by the Washington State Department of Health's Youth Marijuana Prevention and Education Program funding via CHOICE Regional Health Netowrk to expand the capacity and reach of youth marijuana prevention and education efforts throughout southwest Washington State. It was piloted in the 2016-17 school year at G. W. Bush Middle School and Tumwater Middle School, both in Tumwater, WA.
